Daroji

 An exploration of the wilderness of North Karnataka, Daroji: An Ecological Destination by conservationists and photographers Vijay Mohan Raj, Ganesh H. Shankar and Samad Kottur is an eye opener for anyone interested in nature. Whenever we design a book, we come away with knowledge not just of book design but a subject we otherwise might never have explored. It’s a privilege to work with passionate people, who through their art and research open up a world of information for us — in this case, the challenges of wildlife conservation in Karnataka, and the sloth bear sanctuary of Daroji, in particular.

Designing the book was both a pleasure and a challenge. A key objective was to organise text,  images and infographic content to build a cohesive narrative. We curated images with the authors, identifying those that could be scaled up to anchor the book and those that would support an overall sense of a visual rhythm. We were careful to avoid any redundancy and fatigue with overuse of images — the idea was to find a balance to make sure that the final book has the right size and feel.
